In a mixture of concrete there are four lb of cement for each pound of gravel. If the mixture contains a total of 95 ib of these two ingrediants, how many pounds of gravel are there?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

\(4\) pounds of cement is there for every \(1\) pound of gravel

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

that means in every \(5\) pounds of mixture, there is \(1\) pound of gravel right ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

so, in a \(95\) pound mixture, how many pounds of "gravel" will be there ?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

simply divide \(5\)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

gravel present in 95 pound mixture = \(\large \frac{95}{5} = 19 \)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

see if that makes more or less sense.. .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes it does thanks

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

np :)
