sure, they can. there are different types of plants, such as cactus, that can use photosynthesis with little to no water or sunlight.

If bromothymol has carbon dioxide in it, then it would turn yellow. But if there is a plant also inside, the plant would absorb the carbon dioxide, making I the bromothymol blue again. How could the bromothymol remain yellow with the plant inside?
