My x-intercepts aren't directly on my parabola, did I do something wrong?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If the parabola is like this |dw:1395214518705:dw| That means you don't have any real roots. You have imaginary roots though. If you can give the question i can help further.

Well my quadratic equation is x^2 - 8x -9 = 0. My paper says I have to use factorization to find the x - intercepts. I did & I got x = 8 or x = 1. I tried graphing them on my graph where I have my parabola & they're sorta close to the parabola lines; they're off like by one space. Is it wrong or is it supposed to be that way?
