Please help me solve this: Which of the following ordered pairs is a solution of the given system of linear equations? Explain your answer. 6x + 10y = 42 x - y = -1 a. (1, -1) b. (-2, 3) c. (2, 3) d. (-2, 1)

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

you can do this simply by plugging in the given values and see if they fit eg a plug in x = 1 and y = -1 into each of the equations and see if they fit.

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

or you can solve the system by using the substitution or elimination method

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Were I doing the work, I'd much prefer to solve this system of linear equations myself and then choose from the four possible answers. Hint: Multiply the 2nd given equation by -6 and then combine the 1st and 2nd equations. Note that 6x and -6x will disappear.
