how are DNA and mRNA alike
They have the same structure, but RNA is like DNA but cut in half. They have 3 nucleobases which are the same. only 1 differs. Have a look at the attached image.

RNA has a ribose sugar instead of a deoxyribose sugar like DNA. RNA nucleotides have a uracil base instead of thymine. Other than these differences, DNA and RNA are the same.
They are similar in some ways. That is being asked, in which ways are they similar. The question is not: is DNA like RNA?

DNA is missing a hydroxyl group on 2' carbon.
