A radio station gave away concert tickets every hour yesterday. At the end of the fourth hour, the station had 540 tickets left. At the end of the eighth hour, the station had 432 tickets left. Write an equation in general form that expresses the number of tickets left at the radio station, y, as a function of the number of hours past, x 27x + y = 648 27x - y = -216 27x + y = 216 27x - y = 648

The question does NOT tell you that they gave away the same number of tickets every hour. SO strictly speaking you cannot solve this - they could've given away 1 in hour 5 and 107 in hour 8.
On the gross assumption that the give away is linear: |dw:1395274558467:dw|
Again that was not strictly true - since a line graph implies a continuous function. This would be better: |dw:1395274776075:dw|
