WILL MEDAL+++ FAN!!!!!!!! Which statement about World War II is not true? A. Some Allied offensives saw the use of large numbers of parachute and glider troops. B. Some German scientists, such as Einstein, helped the Allies defeat the Nazis. C. The Allies' plan to invade German-held Normandy was code named the Manhattan Project. D. OpenStudy (rebeccapink6398):

@whpalmer4 plz plz plz help!!!!

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Operation Market Garden used elements of the US 101st and 82nd Airborne, British 1st Airborne, and Polish Parachute brigade Einstein was German, and helped persuade Roosevelt that a project to build an atomic bomb was necessary. There was only one battle that I can think of in the Pacific (battle of the Surigao Strait) that involved battleships firing on each other. The battle for the Pacific was conducted primarily by carrier aviation and submarines. Gen. Eisenhower's plan to invade continental Europe was called Operation Overlord.

OpenStudy (rebeccapink6398):

A!?!!?!?!?!? @whpalmer4 ??

OpenStudy (rebeccapink6398):

@whpalmer4 ???!! HELLO?? :(

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Come on, you aren't reading what I wrote very carefully. Operation Market Garden used thousands of Allied paratroopers and glider troops. Scratch A. Einstein was German, and a scientist, and helped persuade Roosevelt of the need to build the atomic bomb that ended the war with Japan (Germany had already surrendered by the time the bomb was used). Scratch B There's your 50/50 lifeline :-)

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

While the correct answer choice is obviously C (because the invasion was named Overlord, and the Manhattan Project was the development of the atomic bomb), B is actually arguably also correct. The way the answer choice is worded implies that Einstein himself helped defeat the Nazis, and that's a very difficult argument to make, in my opinion. He primarily was responsible for urging the study of nuclear fission that led to the development of the bomb, but played no direct role himself other than lending his prestige to the letter to Roosevelt, and the Japanese were not Nazis. If the answer choice was changed to read Axis powers instead of Nazis, then it would be more correctly written, as Japan was part of the Axis powers.
