OpenStudy (whpalmer4):
SOH: Sin of an angle = Opposite / Hypotenuse
CAH: Cos of an angle = Adjacent / Hypotenuse
TOA: Tan of an angle = Opposite / Adjacent
OpenStudy (whpalmer4):
Which of those three ratios incorporates all of the known quantities here?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
I thought it would be CAH.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
?
OpenStudy (whpalmer4):
You don't know the value of the hypotenuse...
You do know the angle, and the adjacent, and the unknown is the opposite. which of the two remaining formulas relates those three items?

Sorry for the delay in answering — went off to make and eat dinner, and forgot about this window :-(
OpenStudy (anonymous):
No worry. And, TOA.
OpenStudy (whpalmer4):
Right, so \[\tan 35^\circ = \frac{x}{12}\]Solve for \(x\)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
x=8.40249
OpenStudy (whpalmer4):
Very good!
