Someone please help me, this question is on a test that is due today. I just need help finding the value of x. Round your answer to the nearest tenth.

You should have a theorem about right triangle formed by constructing an altitude through the right angle vertex. Do you have this theorem about similarity?

OpenStudy (eg145341):

No

The triangle on the left is 9-12-15. Hence the angle w is 36.87 degrees, (arctan (9/12)) Now the triangles on the left and right are similar, cause if you take the 9 belonging to the triangle on the right, and turn it 90 degrees anticlockwise, you'd see they match relatively well. You haven't been introduced to the law so im skipping that part, now if w is 36.87, the angle on the triangle at the right must also be the same. You now know the angle, and have a side, so it should now be cos 36.87 = 9/x so x = 9/cos 36.87 which gives you 11.25 i believe. Might want to check that on a calculator the radians thiny on google might get me wrong so try it yourself as well :)

THANK YOU!!! =)
