Melania has two jobs. During the day she works as an office clerk, and in the evening she works as a cashier. Her office job pays her $13 per hour. Her cashier job pays her $9.25 per hour. In one week, Melania worked 38 hours. She earned a total of $434.
How many hours did Melania work in each job?

B.Office clerk: 16 hours; cashier: 22 hours

Solve this by simultaneous equations. let x + y = 38 which is the total number of hours she worked. Then, because the jobs pay 13 and 9.25 mark these as coefficients. So your equation will be 13x + 9.25y = 38. Now using the choices you have see which number when plugged in would give you 38.
