I need a couple Ideas for an essay... What are some reasons college football players shouldn't get paid? ~ I had one reason, but my teacher said to find something stronger. What are some reasons college football players should get paid? ~ I have 2 reasons for this one.

1. College is a provided service by each state. College athletes are not professionals and therefore should not be paid. The purpose of going to college is to get the training so you can use it later. 2. What about High School athletes? "College athletes should be paid because they generate money for their schools." That's the argument we hear constantly, and if that's the case high school athletes should be paid. Let me just say now and clarify, I don't believe high school athletes should be paid, I'm just debunking their theory. There's thousands of high schools that depend on the athletic program to keep afloat. 3. Who's going to pay for it all? Football players will be paid the most obviously because of popularity. The question then would be, how much? If you're a college student going to a major university and you're not an athlete, odds are tuition is going to go through the roof. 4. They already get paid Major colleges provide the best services to their "student athletes." As athletes they are not held to the same standard as other students. The biggest universities give the athletes the best gyms to workout in, free health insurance for injuries, transportation, food, equipment and most importantly free tuition. That in itself is a payment for three to four years.

It would be unfair to other students if the university paid athletes to play college sports, although many may disagree. Scholarships granted to student athletes cover tuition, fees, room, board and textbooks. Some athletes receive scholarships that cover only a portion of these expenses, but many still receive exceedingly more aid than the average student. If universities started paying college athletes, it would be grossly unfair to the peers who work hard just to make ends meet. Student athletes who are already awarded scholarship money to attend college should not be paid any additional amount on the side.
