Describe how an author reveals a character’s personality directly.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Characterization is the use of literary techniques to reveal the nature of a character. A writer may reveal a character in four different ways. The writer may: -describe the character's appearance. -report the character's speech and behavior. -describe the reactions of other characters to the individual. -reveal the character's thoughts and feelings.

k hold on

By the character's thoughts and actions. Let's say your character, Sherry, is a rude person. Here are some examples to make that point: Sherry grabbed the cup from him. "Go away." --- Sherry laughed at her. "You're such a little twit, Marcy." --- "Sherry wouldn't come," Gregg said. "She said to drop dead." None of those directly say "Sherry is a rude person", but they all imply it.

did that help

It can be done by directly stating the character's likes and dislikes. For instance, in Harry Potter, the author has directly stated that the Dursley family stays away from anything that is not normal.
