Tyler High School has a total of 101 boys and girls who play sports. If the number of boys is 8 more than twice the number of girls, how many girls play sports at this high school?

let the number of boys is b and number of girls is g. according to first condition \[b+g=110\] according to second condition i. e. number of boys is 8 more than twice the number of girls. \[b=8+2g\] solve both equation to find \[g= 34\] and \[b=76\]
