Millitarily were able to adapt to guriella tactics, stregthen the Army of South Vietnam and withdraw troops with a democracy in place in South Vietnam. Politically we erased the military victory by refusing to support the democratic government. We stopped selling them weapon parts, and the aid that we promised, because the US population was convinced that we cut our losses.
The pictures you see of the fail of Saigon do not show a US military defeat. Rather they show a shameful abandonment of good friends and allies after working together for a hard fought victory against the spread of Communism.
