whats the best way to do a cover for a song?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Depends on what kind of cover you're doing! If you want to keep it very close to the original song, care must be taken to keep your version as accurate as possible. If possible, find sheet music, MIDI, or some objective form of the song you can directly read and see. This will give you actual notation if you work by that, or a point of reference if you do well by ear. From there, listen closely for some of the effects or tricks in the original song that help it. Is there an echo effect? Reverb? Are the guitars clean or distorted? After that, get to work reconstructing it. Make sure to compare your version to the original very often, so as to keep the two close!

The best way to do a cover of a song is to make it seem as if it's your own but at the same time make it sound similar to the original singers version. Hit higher notes than the singer and just mix it up a little bit. But ALWAYS, make sure that you let the viewers no who song it is :)
