Human beings (Homo sapiens), our scientific name means literally "wise man," (I sometimes wonder about this), are closely related to Chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes). Incidentally, a troglodyte is a caveman, so don't use this name as an epithet (abusive verbal dis)! Anyway, for decades many biologists wondered why chimps have 48 chromosomes while human beings have 46. This didn't seem reasonable based on evolutionary theory. If the theory of evolution is true (we shared a recent ancestor with chimps) then why don't we have the same number of chromosomes? This is perplexing.....it's a conundrum! I
In fact, some people found this fact so compelling that they were convinced that this disproved evolution! Has this been resolved? Consider also the value of expert testimony. If you were on trial, and you required the defense of an expert, wouldn't you want one? What criteria should we consider when we judge someone's expertise?
