How do you use context clues to determine the meaning of a new word? Give me an example

You would look for a " new word " or a word that sticks out in a sentence. Then you would read the sentence and it would probably help you see what the exact meaning of the word might be.

for ex. The actress read through a book and PERSUED
A newspaper and then she took a snooze.
