Math help please
I'll see if I can help whats the problem.
What have you done so far? How do you recognize a function? a non-function?
Directions Tell whether the sets of ordered pairs are functions or not. Wr ite yes or no and explain your answer.
1. (1, 0), (4, 2), (7, 4), (10, 6) 2.
Does this appear to be a function or not a function? Why?
Im not sure I havent learned this before
Do you have a textbook, or do you have online learning materials, that explain functions and provide examples?
2. (5,-2),(5-1),(5,0),(5,1)
Online
Have you tried looking up "functions"?
Nope i was hoping just for answers
I want to be helpful and encouraging, but for you to ask for answers with no involvement on your part, or for me to provide them without your involvement, is not permitted under the OpenStudy Code of Conduct. I'm going to make one exception, to help you get started.
Thank you
What are the four x-values in (1, 0), (4, 2), (7, 4), (10, 6)?
1,4,7,10
Right. All the x-values are different, so this definitely is a function. Given an x-value, there is exactly one y value connected with it. Now look at (5,-2),(5-1),(5,0),(5,1). What are the four x-values?
Thank you and 5,5,5,5 so im guessing its not a function since their all the same
That's right. If any x value has more than ONE y value associated with it, the relationship is NOT a function. It's important that you know how to spot a function and how to spot a nonfunction/ If you drew a circle and then drew a vertical line through the circle, how many times would that line intersect the circle?
2? im not quite sure
Right, 2. So for one x-value, you have how many y-value(s)?
Thats all the questions I have for those Are you willing to help with a different set of questions please.
and 2 y values to answer your question
So does the graph of the circle (relation) represent a function or not?
It is not a function
Exactly! Congrats! What was the next problem you wanted to discuss? Please post it separately.
Alright I appreciate the help thanks.
