But really it's a part of the human brain. Well, actually two parts because each brain has two hippocampi. It's the place that short term memory gets shifted to long term memory or tossed out. It's also the place where Alzheimer's disease starts. That's why Alzheimer victims sometimes remember their distant past better than near past.
