you have a SEMI-circle sitting on top of a rectangle so use the equation for the area of a circle, then half it PLUS the equation of the area for a rectangle

Because radius=L/2. Area of a circle is pi*radius^2. Area of a half-circle is pi*radius^2 / 2. Ergp (pi*(L/2)^2)/2=>a).
