I think it is A, because of this: random changes in offspring causes some giraffe babies to have shorter necks and some longer. The ones with the longer necks are better fitted to reach for the leaves on the higher branches. Therefore, they have a bigger chance to get babies themselves. So the ones with longer necks are more likely to survive. The new generation generally resembles the current one, so they will in general also have longer necks. In this way, after a few generations, a larger fraction of the population of giraffes will have longer necks.
