A coin is tossed 50 times and lands with heads facing up 48% of the time. Which is most likely to happen in 1000 tosses of the coin? A. The percent of heads facing up will be exactly 48%. B. The percent of heads facing up will be exactly 50%. C. The percent of heads facing up will approach 48%. D. The percent of heads facing up will approach 50%.

OpenStudy (ajanijones):

Hi will you be willing to help if you can.

OpenStudy (akashdeepdeb):

A coin can land as a tail or as a head. So there is a 50 50 chance of both, this means that, the probability of getting a head = 50% = 1/2 and also the probability of getting a tail 50% = 1/2 The universe is designed like that, with uncertainty.. In 50 tosses of the coin, the prob. of a head is 48% [which should not be the case] So in more tosses of the coin it'll tend to become 50% because that is the chance of getting ahead over a head. So in 1000 tosses of the coin the probability should approach 50%. Understood? :)

OpenStudy (ajanijones):

so my answer is D because it will approach 50% right.

OpenStudy (akashdeepdeb):

Yes.

OpenStudy (akashdeepdeb):

Did you understand WHY?

OpenStudy (ajanijones):

Yes and thank you so much.

OpenStudy (akashdeepdeb):

:)
