Martha likes walking around the beach, but Lila prefers windsurfing, because it's faster and more exciting.

I dont think you could put "but" and "because" in the same sentence. It doesnt sound right to you, right?

Instead you could say something like...

Martha likes walking around the beach while Lila prefers windsurfing, because it's faster and more exciting.
