The circuit is called an Active circuit (due to presence of a transistor which is an active element). for eg- active filters, etc. The above answer "Small scale integration" is wrong. The level of integration (SSI,MSI,LSI,VLSI,ULSI) is only with reference to the no. of gates or transistors present in a given IC.
