Formal speech is when you are serious and you use professional words that you don't really use everyday.
Example:
As the price of five dollars was reasonable, I decided to make the purchase without further thought.

Informal Speech is language you use everyday.
Example:
It was, like, five bucks, so I was like “okay”.
