Washington and Monroe believed the United States should not become involved in European affairs. Is it possible to follow the same policy today? Why or why not? Cite examples of recent news events to support your opinion. 750 words just need ideas
Ideas to consider: NATO, G8, Cold War, The US took over the role of the worlds superpower from Britain after WWII. We are trying to disengage from our responsibility now in Ukraine. Consider what happens to struggling European countries when we do nothing? Europe is not a continent full of monarchies, each looking to dominate the world as it was in Washington's and Monroe's administration. Our involvement with Europe today can be seen as an extension of the Monroe Doctrine. Monroe wanted to protect democracies in the Americas. European democracies deserve the same protection.
