lets try to figure out the first one:

If i have two negative numbers, -a and -b, and I add them together, ie I have -a + (-b)

will I have a negative number?

It might help to think of the number line. If I start at some negative number to the left of 0 on the number line, and then I move b spaces to the left (which is the same as adding -b), will i be on the left side or the right side of 0?
