Write a quadratic function in standard form for the parabola that passes through the points (−1, −1), (0, −3), (1, 3).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[y=ax^2+bx+c\]since \((0,-3)\) is on the graph, you know \[c=-3\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y=ax^2+bx+c plug the values and find the values of a,b,c

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then since \((-1,-1)\) is on the graph, you know \[y=a(-1)^2+b(-1)-3=-1\]i.e. \[a-b-3=-1\\a-b=2\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and since \((1,2)\) is on the graph you have \[y=a(1)^2+b(1)-3=2\] or \[a+b-3=2\\a+b=5\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

solve \[a-b=2\\a+b=5\] for \(a\) and \(b\)

@satellite73 thank you so much for your help :)
