A researcher was performing a test to check the effect of induced point mutation. But the experimental mouse could not survive. What might be the reason for this?

OpenStudy (blues):

There are a few different reasons for this. Those mutations that affect coding structure of the gene, the amino acid sequence and hence the structure and function of the protein could prevent the protein working - or make it work too much. And this could have the biologic effect of killing the mouse. In which the mouse dying would be a real result of the experiment. Or there are a lot of elements of experimental error in processes like this - in which case the mouse dying would have nothing to do with the altered gene itself, but might have to do with other altered genes, etc.
