help with the taming of the shrew
my assignment is a shakespeare literary analysis essay i have to answer one of these questions: 1. Argue whether the use of clever language works to develop the plot and comedy in The Taming of the Shrew. 2. Argue whether comedic devices work to develop the plot in The Taming of the Shrew. 3. Argue whether the plot development relies upon the use of comedic devices in The Taming of the Shrew. im not sure which one would be the easiest to write about, with more details and stuff like that and i need some examples from the story to use or write about
Act one In this act Lucencio Tranio and Petruchio disguise themselves as a servant and a music teacher to try and fool Kate and Bianca’s father for the marriages of his daughters. These three men try to fool Baptista the father so as to marry Bianca and Kate. In disguises, these men show us a comedic advice of mistaken and disguised identity to fool Baptista. Act two In this act Petruchio meets Kate and they banter back and forth him with sweet words and hers with harsh mean words and she isn’t used to him talking kindly to her so she hit him but he says he will hit her if she does it again. Here Petruchio and Kate are bantering back and forth. The comedic device used in this scene is Petruchio who is clever with his witty language to try to woo Kate into liking him. Act three In this act Kate is at the alter waiting to get married when Petruchio shows up late wearing shabby clothes and riding a broken down old horse that was sick. Here the comedic device is an unexpected plot twist. People didn’t expect Petruchio to show up to a wedding in shabby clothes riding a broken down horse just to humiliate Kate to get her to submit to his every will. Act four In this act Petruchio brings Kate home after the wedding. He has a plan that will make her wanting him and to get her to listen to him. First he complains that the food is burned and pushes it on the floor and says that Kate must only have the best so she goes to bed with no food. Then he complains the bed was made wrong and that it is not perfect for her to sleep it. All Kate wanted was warm food and a bed to sleep in but it was all part of Petruchio’s plan to get her tamed. The comedic device in this scene is young love with a struggle. Kate tries to resist listening to Petruchio but every day she goes without food or sleep she has no choice but to listen if she wants to eat or sleep. So Kate struggles with trying to listen to her new husband. Act five In this act Petruchio, Lucentio, Hortensio, Baptista, Bianca, Kate and another women get together to celebrate all the weddings. All the guys still think Petruchio couldn’t get Kate to listen so they made a bet that whoever’s wife came first would win. So each man set their servant out to fetch the wife but came back and said they couldn’t come because they were busy, but when Petruchio sent his servant to get Kate she was the first to come back surprising everyone. After that Kate and Petruchio went to bed happily together. The comedic device in this scene is unity and harmony in the ending. Petruchio wanted to show off his new wife and how well he had gotten her to listen to him by throwing a party. All the guys made bets to whose wife would come first and Kate surprised them all by being the first to come. Since Petruchio had finally gotten Kate to listen to him she was now finally able to eat and sleep with him having the story end with them as a happy couple united with harmony and peace.
