hint : tangent and radius intersect at 90 degrees
ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
So, if OAB is a right triangle, then AB is a tangent
ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
knw how to check whether OAB is a right triangle or not ?

you're right about the conclusion that it is not a tangent

but you're wrong in saying that the angle is LESS THAN 90
ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
a^2 + b^2 < c^2
gives an obtuse triangle, so the angle will be greater than 90
OpenStudy (highschoolmom2010):
would
since the square of the length of the longest side of a triangle is greater than the sum of the squares of the lengths of the other two sides, then the triangle is obtuse. for it to be a tangent it must form a right triangle with the circle.
