What is the area of the trapezoid shown here?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A) 16 sq ft B) 21 sq ft C) 25 sq ft D) 32 sq ft I think it's B..

OpenStudy (phi):

do you know the formula for the area of a trapezoid ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No. :(

OpenStudy (phi):

see http://www.mathopenref.com/trapezoidarea.html

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So. Height X Base X Base 2?

OpenStudy (phi):

the formula says height x (base + base2) /2 in other words, find the average of the two bases and then multiply by the height

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh okay I get it. So the area of the trapezoid is 16.

OpenStudy (phi):

If you move the orange dots (at the site in the link), you can make it the same size as your problem.
