How can we recognize that the egg is raw without breaking it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is this an actual physics question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you mean by the "actual"? Yes, It's an interesting question and you can invent a metod to determine - the egg is raw or not...

OpenStudy (mrnood):

If you place it upon a table and spin it, then rapidly place you hand on it to stop it then realease it If the egg is raw then the fluid inside will continue rotating - when you release your hand the egg will start to rotate again. If the egg is cooked then when you release your hand the egg remains stationary.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Here's a better method: Boil an egg. Spin this egg and compare this to your egg. If your egg is raw, it will come to rest much more quickly than the boiled egg since the rotational energy of the raw egg will be dissipated by the fluid motion inside the egg.

OpenStudy (mrnood):

better? or different? You need to boil an egg. My method works with the 1 egg you have. Either method relies on the fact that the internal fluid movement is detectable by spinning the egg.

wow, interesting methods!! My answer was like alanevans99's, but MrNood's is great too. MrNood, are you sure that the fluid inside will continue rotating and will not stop very fast, because of large friction force? We need experiment) MrNood and alanevans99, did you know about this problem before my question?

OpenStudy (mrnood):

Yes I knew about it . Yes I know it works experimentally.

ok, medal for you for the first answer and the method with one egg haha!)
