Which sentence has an elliptical adverb clause with an understood word or words? Mythl alcohol boils at a lower temperature than water. Water turns into ice when the temperature is lowered to 32°F. As we travel higher than does the sea level, the boiling point of water drops.

None of them. All 3 sentences are a mess. a) Methyl alcohol boils at a lower temperature than water.- This one has an elliptical PHRASE, not a clause. Removing the ellipsis:.Methyl alcohol boils at a lower temperature than water BOILS. But that's a prepositional phrase; no clause. b) Water turns into ice when the temperature is lowered by 32 F. Not really. Take 200 degree water. Lower its temperature by 32 degrees. You have 168 degree water. That's definitely NOT frozen, Water turns into ice when the temperature is lowered TO 32 degrees F. c) As we travel higher than does the sea level, the boiling point of water drops. Not going to happen. The sea level never travels. It stays in one place.
