how does Fitzgerald suggests the importance of social class in the great gatsby?

I loved The Great Gatsby!! Such a great story. The author shows the importance of social class when Gatsby lies about his past. People were intolerant of other classes causing Gatsby to have to lie. Sorry I should've mentioned that this was suppose to be from chapters 1-3 (The dinner party at east egg with daisy, then the NYC apt and finally gatsbys party). So how does the author display the importance of social class based on those events?

Hmm... I'd say the way people interacted. The upper class partying at Gatsby's, the poorer area being attributed with hopelessness, etc. Hope this helps!
