x^2+5x+6=0

OpenStudy (lucaz):

5x is the same as 2x+3x, rewrite the equation x^2+2x + 3x+6=0, factor out x and 3 x(x+2) + 3(x+2)=0, factor out x+2 (x+2)(x+3)=0

Thank you but now..what is x^2-2x-8=0

OpenStudy (lucaz):

another way to factor is finding two numbers the product is equal to A*C and the sum is equal to B, from the equation Ax^2+Bx+C so the sum is -2(from -2x) and the product is -8(from 1*-8) try -4 and 2.. -4*2=-8 -4+2=-2 they work, so you have the factored form (x-4)(x+2)=0
