My daughters first grade math and it makes no sense

Cho's cat and Jerry's kitten weighs 7 lbs together Jerry kitten weighs 3 pounds less than chos cat what does the kitten weigh

1st graders don't do algebra...so let look at it like a first grader might.
Cat.....kitten they have to add up to 7 lbs
4 lbs 3 lbs adds to 7 but the kittten isn't 3 less than the cat
5 2 adds to 7 and the kittn is 3 less lbs than the cat.
That's the answer!
Cat is 5 lbs...kitten is 2 lbs

Yeah....math teachers have made people see problems like that and immediately have algebraic panic attacks instead of just kinda playing around with the numbers...which is usually easier.
