The probability of drawing a blue marble from a bag is 2/5 . The probability of drawing a red marble from the bag is 1/5. What is the probability of drawing a red marble or a blue marble from the bag?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3/5

mathslover (mathslover):

@shay17 is correct but Shay, do try to explain how you get the answer. Only answers will not help the asker even discussing the problem with the asker and knowing about her/his ideas about the question and then explaining the solution to the asker is always good and better. Ok great

When they say or they mean add so what is the probability of picking a red and blue marble. If the probability of drawing a red marble is 1/5 and a blue marble 2/5 then you would add the numerators. Make sure your denominator stays the same! Don't add them!

That's even better Shay! I appreciate that a lot. Keep it up and I am sure you will feel better yourself by helping a user through a solution rather than a direct answer. *Claps* for you :)

Lo thanks
