which kind of mutations can lead to cancer?

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

any kind of mutation actually..according to what i know..it actually depends on where the mutation occurs and not on which type of mutation....for eg mutation in p53 gene could lead to cancer..so this mutation can be substitution deletion insertion etc...

there is many kind of mutations in our body, and I know these mutation increase in tumors, and these events are random.but I cannot convince myself : how these mutations lead to cancer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

mutation is a sudden change of genetic materials inside the cell cancer is caused by Malignant tumor- uncontrolled cell division so it forms clumps of invasive cells and they will spread to other parts while Benign tumor does not cause a cancer, the cells will not invade e.g. neighboring tissues mostly, they will stay where they are (its quite common in colon)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so to answer your question: how mutations lead to cancer mutations (not all) may lead to malfunction of cells starting uncontrolled cell division and these cells are invasive, spreading to other parts of the body, you can say its like colonizing the organ (for example) with bad cells when these cells accumulate, they become a malignant tumor

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lets have a summary of cancer, if it is not true you can correct me, the functions of a cell is controlled by proteins. for any reason we could have incorrect proteins leading to uncontrolled devision and invasion, and other features of cancer cells.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah you can say so

OpenStudy (anonymous):

we call the process of protein production, mutation yeah???

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

process of protein production is called translation...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry, I mean the process of incorrect proteins

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

umm...i wud like to answer ur question...i would stick to the p53 gene....see this gene produces a protein P53. this protein acts as a checkpoint in cell cycle. it checks whether everything in d dna is correct and then lets d cell undergo mitosis...now if there is mutation in this gene..the protein would not function properly...so there would be no checkpoint..and faulty cells would also be able to undergo mitosis leading to proliferation of such cells....leading to cancer....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so, is uncontrolled cell division equivalent to cancer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, like what i said, cancer is caused by malignant tumor while benign tumor will not cause a cancer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so,cancer mutations include the mutations cause invasion, angiogenesis?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its more like mutations cause cancers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thnx
