Which sequence shows the different types of electromagnetic waves arranged in an increasing order of their frequency? radio waves, microwaves, visible light, x-rays x-rays, visible light, microwaves, radio waves visible light, radio waves, x-rays, microwaves microwaves, x-rays, radio waves, visible light visible light, x-rays, radio waves, microwaves
What's frequency? What's something that happens frequently? Stuff that happens often, that's what! It takes a lot of energy to make something happen frequently, similarly waves with high frequency are also full of energy. So what does this mean? Well we can now apply common sense to this problem!* For instance, you've heard that x-rays are dangerous right? That's because they have a lot of energy. What about light or radio waves? Well if you've ever turned on a radio then you know radiowaves are all around us at all times, otherwise how would it pick up the signal? These must be fairly weak if we can be around them all the time. What about microwaves? They're actually a little bit of a special case where they act by being just the right resonant frequency with water molecules to cause them to vibrate. So even though they're more dangerous than visible light they're actually not as energetic. Interesting stuff. Point is, you can look up the electromagnetic spectrum online and for the most part it's fairly reasonable. Here you go! http://www.lbl.gov/images/MicroWorlds/EMSpec.gif
