What is the approximate value of the function x=1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hey there! Welcome to OpenStudy. First of all, I'm sure you're not dumb. Do you have a graph for this problem? I'll be happy to try to help you! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

looks like this

I'm completely lost, and I've been working all different types of algebra equations for the past week so I'm getting them all mixed up and confused

OpenStudy (phi):

can you find the point (1,0) (x=1 , y=0) put your finger on that point and go down the line until you reach the curve. then move sideways to the left. read off the y value.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, let's find x=1. The x=axis is the horizontal one labeled "x". Find the number 1. Now keep going down until you reach the red line. What's the value of y?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is it -2?

OpenStudy (phi):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh thanks, that was easier than i expected, just didn't know where to go with it
