With his first set of experiments, Mendel found that characteristics appear to skip generations. With his second set of experiments, he found that different characteristics are inherited independently of one another. Why would this information be useful? Can you think of a practical application of Mendel's laws? Could Mendel's laws be used to predict the characteristics of the offspring of a given set of parents? How do you think this might be done?
