1cm=6km which is the same as 1 over 6, the other fraction is 12 over x, where x is the distance in km. so you have one, and you need to multiply it by 12 to get 12, so you do the same to the bottom, 6 times 12 is 72, so 1cm:6cm=12cm:72cm
