how did the data gathered during the Luna 9 help scientists to better understand the universe?

The Luna 9 is history. It was launched in 1966 by the Soviet Union. It was the first man made object to land on the moon. It sent back pictures of the rocks around it an some moonscape shots. It measured radiation on the moon. Perhaps most important, it proved that a landing craft could be supported by the lunar surface and would not sink into the surface.
