Question about experiments?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Elaine wants to know if coffee will help students perform better on English tests. Twenty-four of her friends have volunteered to participate in her study. She randomly assigns 12 friends to drink water and 12 to drink coffee. All 24 participants take the same math test. She calculates the mean for each group and determines that the mean for the coffee group was 93% and the mean for the water group was 90%. To test the difference of means, she re-randomized the data 100 times, and the differences are plotted in the dot plot below. What can Emily conclude from her study?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes I do

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kk

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Obviously she needs help. You calling her that is a bit creepy. LOL js

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think the answer would be the difference in the means is significant because a difference of 3 is not very likely.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

tht was accident im on my tablet right now and puts words for me sometimes , ok so lets start with the helping

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to start, what grade are you in so that I can know if I am eligible to help you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

From the plotted data it can be concluded that a difference of 3 is not very likely right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm a senior

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OMG 0.0 im not eligible to help, lol im a freshman XC

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok. Thanks anyway

OpenStudy (anonymous):

welcome

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@esshotwired @tHe_FiZiCx99 can either of you tell me if I'm on the right track?

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):

I'm doing my own exam atm xD I can try in a few minutes though, if you still need help that is.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):

What throws me if is that it says, "she re-randomized the data 100 times" She converted each mean into a percent, if you undo the percent by multiplying by 100 it's 93, if you multiply is by 12 that's the total score of the coffee group. Subtract it from the water group and divide by 12 it's 3. So having a difference if 3 would actually be significant. If that makes any sense to you cx

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):

It's pretty obvious why it would be significant >.>

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):

The negative's only add up to 9, the 0 has almost half of the coffee and water group, more so water than coffee.
