The English Restoration is the time period after the Protectorate. Charles the first had been beheaded and parliament tried ruling without a king. Oliver Cromwell didn't do a good job of that so the asked Charles' son Charles II to come be king. Charles took up where his father left off. Punishing those who put his father and trial and generally establishing himself as king and ignoring peoples natural right.. Royalist exiles returned and it all seemed to go back to one big party at the expense of anybody who was not a member of the Church of England. 15 years on and Charles died. His son became James II an botched it pretty badly. A group of clergy and other leaders invited William of Orange to invade England. William was married to Mary, James daughter. William showed up with his Dutch Army and Navy. James decided to runaway, but was captured. William didn't want to make James a martyr and let him escape to France and live with Louis 14 William and Mary governed together and worked out the details with Parliament. Their story is the Glorious Revolution. So that's about it for the Restoration.
