Arlene made a necklace using red and silver beads in the ratio 4 to 1. The necklace used sixty beads altogether. How many silver beads did Arlene use to make the necklace? twelve fifteen thirty-six forty-eight

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

think about it this way: red beads=4 silver beads=1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4x+x=60

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

@yuvi123 shouldn't you use different variables? now 60 divided by 4 equals 15. this means that 15 silver beads were used :) make sense?

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

@marrero

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what about the silver beads?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wat?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(60/5)=12

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

no, those are the silver beads because for every 4 red beads, there is 1 silver bead. and @iambatman *facepalm* i solved for three red beads D: the answer is 12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sry the you should account for both silver and red beads 4parts of red beads and 1part of silver beads

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

so erm think of it this way: http://prntscr.com/35dgi1 If you draw it out, it makes more sense :)
