Okay, I am doing a project, and I need to explain the physics happening in this scene. Can getting hit in the head actually kill you, and how? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q33WK0l2OdA Can anybody help me? I am awful at physics, and CANNOT for the life of me explain it.

OpenStudy (rajat97):

yes it can i think that we get a very large impulse when we are being intentianally being hit a large impulse means a very large force for a short period of time though this IMPULSE acts for a very short period of time, it can have devastating effects as seen in the vedio our brain and the skull or the head(whatever) does not have a shock absorbing system that it can absorb the impulse indeed the impulse disturbs many things inside our body and the brain is very sensitive other organs and systems may have mechanisms and shock absorbing fluids like the CSF that is probably in one of the nervous systems of our body(i think we have 3 nervous systems) and it saves the system from getting any mechanical shock! so i think this may be the reason. i hope this helps you in your project:)

OpenStudy (rajat97):

what do you think??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This helps a lot! Do you know if you can make an equation using like positions, force, velocity, acceleration? to explain this scene?

OpenStudy (rajat97):

yeah sure

OpenStudy (rajat97):

can you please wait for a moment??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Gladly :)

OpenStudy (rajat97):

and thanks for the medal!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem! You deserve it!

OpenStudy (rajat97):

J(impulse) is defined as a very large amount of force acting on a body for a very short period in differential form , we write it as J=\[\int\limits_{0}^{t}Fdt\](this is the basic defn. of ) it is also defined as the change in momentum and mathematically, it is written as J=pf - pi (f and i are in subscript) where pf represents final momentum and pi represents initial momentum impuse is a vector quantity and it's SI unit is Ns(newton second) when the man was being killed, initial momentum of his head was 0(momentum(p))=mv m=mass and v=velocity) and then he got a large and a sudden blow by the thing and he couldn't handle that blow (impulse is also reffered to as jerk sometimes) and he died due to injuries in his brain

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you sooooooo much! this really helps a lot!! You're a life saver!

OpenStudy (rajat97):

oh! that's good! and even i'm your fan now as appreciating is also an art in itself :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Haha I will definitely come to you next time I need help!

OpenStudy (rajat97):

yeah sure and it would be a pleasure for me to help you!
