Can anyone please help me with this history assignment? I'm so stuck. Prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor, the United States was very much divided about entry into World War II. Many isolationists opposed U.S. involvement, while others felt we had a responsibility to act in the face of such aggression.

Our editors of US History, AP seek your input. You will be writing an introductory paragraph for an editorial to appear in the next issue. In your paragraph, you should include a thesis, justifying your position, and summarize some of the major evidence that could be used to back up your opinion. Remember, you are writing only the introductory paragraph, and it should be a summary of the arguments you would present were you to be asked to write the entire editorial. You will justify the isolationist position that the U.S. should not enter the war. Remember, write as if the attack on Pearl Harbor had not yet happened.

I'm not in AP History anymore, but I can still help. Isolationist means that you didn't want to get involved in the war, and since they say that Pearl Harbor hasn't yet happened, your life is a lot easier. One thing you could say is that the "lend-lease" act was in play. The lend-lease act is where the US was giving the Allies weaponry and supplies without being directly involved in the war. You could also say that the US has no cause for being involved, as It hasn't been attacked or anything like that. One other thing you could say is that peace negotiations were going on to help resolve differences so the Japan, and that sorta goes back into the whole "we haven't gotten attacked yet" point... Hopefully that helps you out a bit...
