In biology, ATP stands for Adenosine triphosphate. It is a chemical compound which cells use to store energy or to release energy. In other words, it is a basic source of energy and encompasses adenine, 5 carbon sugar or ribose and 3 phosphates groups. Adenosine -5-triphosphate (ATP) is a multifunctional nucleotide used in cells as co-enzyme. It is often called as the molecular unit of currency of intracellular energy transfer.
